San Jose Family Designs Cozy ADU for Beloved Grandmother, Balancing Privacy and Family Connection
The Hernandez family built their ADU (accessory dwelling unit) for their grandmother, who lives with them and plays a crucial role in childcare and cooking, as well as handling the school drop-offs and pickups for the children. Recognizing the need for more space, they aimed to provide her with a small, comfortable, and private living area. This new arrangement allows her the flexibility to cook either in her own space or in the main house, addressing the family’s need for additional space while ensuring she has a personal retreat.
